MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Senior Sam Ellis placed fourth out of 147 competitors in a personal record time of 16:15, leading the Chatham boys cross-country team to the 2021 Morris County Championship on Wednesday at Greystone.
It marked the third time in school history that the boys won the county title, joining the 2006 and 2014 teams as the only other champions since the meet began in 1954. Chatham’s average time for the 5K race was 16:55.
Alex Krack came through with a 7th-place finish in 16:38 for Chatham and Aidan Johnson was 10th in 16:55. Also scoring for the Cougars were Charlie Henne, 20th in 17:21, and Leo Valenzuela, 21st in 17:24.
Freshman Leo Straka placed 71st in 18:41 for Chatham.
